Project Management Certification (PMP) Eligibility Criteria
Project
Management, as a career is on the rise as the demand for the number of people
who have the skills and expertise in executing and planning
projects is on the rise. As a result, many professionals are opting for PMP
certification, which is the most popular and among the most widely sought-after
certification courses going around right now.
As far as
the PMP Certification eligibility goes, you need to have 3 years of relevant project related
experience. Apart from your prior work experience, you would also need 35 PDU’s
or 35 hours of training from a PMI recognized institute. There are various
institutes across the country who provide such trainings, but it is essential
to check the credentials and authenticity of the institutes and the quality of
trainers who conduct the workshops. Always check the PMP course details in its entirety before going ahead.
The PMP Certification course details of the institute will generally give you a good
overview of how the institute would be conducting their course, and the manner
in which they operate. Every institute has a different structure, way of
teaching and study material that they use. The best ones teach you in a
conceptualized manner, give you the correct study material as per your needs
and clear all your doubts- before, during, and after the course.
It is
advisable for you to be involved in some kind of a project-related work before
you opt for this certification, as you would be better equipped to understand
and grasp the concept and apply the same as well. Not necessarily a project
manager, but having a fair bit of understanding in handling a real-time project
would add great value to you. Any PMI- member or consultant from the REP
Centers can guide you with the experience sharing if you are eligible or not.
As per
recent studies, it was seen that a person with a PMP certification ends up
earning a 20 percent higher salary compared to their counterparts who are not
PMP certified. This trend transcends geographies, i.e. it is seen in many
countries thereby underlying the importance and the recognition or appeal of
this certification.
The total
cost of getting the certification depends on the training cost of the institute
as well as the PMI membership and exam fees that you would be paying for, while
writing the exam. The PMI Membership cost is USD 139 and exam cost would be USD
405. Thus, the total cost of just writing the exam is well over USD 500, i.e.
USD 544 to be precise, which is close to 40 thousand INR taking into consideration
the conversion rate today. Thus, it becomes all the more important to choose
the right partner, i.e. the right institute who makes sure that all your
concepts are clear while you attend the workshop, and also provide post
workshop support.
Make an
informed choice before going ahead with any institute, as PMP is a
certification that can add a lot of value to your career and getting it right
is very essential, as you only have to get it right once.
All the best preparing for PMP.
