The PGMP course, short form of Program Management Professional Certification is a course that is offered by the Project Management Institute to individuals who are either working in the capacity of a project manager or a program manager in an organization handling multiple projects, team leaders, project directors, candidates interested in pursuing a career in program or project management and portfolio heads.

The PMI or Project Management Institute is an ISO accredited organisation based in the United States and is primarily engaged in developing standards, providing education and training, conducting relevant research, offering certifications and publishing and organizing conferences and seminars in the field of project management. All candidates that are accredited by PMI need to clear the required examination after attending the requisite course. The PMI credential needs to be renewed every third year else the certified professional needs to earn 60 Professional Development Units (PDU) by spending 60 hours in structured learning in the area of project management. 

In order to undergo the PGMP certification training, the interested candidate needs to

a.    Be working in the project management field for at least four years and possess bachelor’s degree or a high school degree

b.    Additionally for people with a high school degree, seven years of program management experience is mandatory and for people with bachelors’ degree, minimum experience of four years is required in program management.

To get the PGMP certification, the candidate needs to clear a PGMP exam at the end of the PGMP Certification Training course. The exam typically consists of 170 multiple choice questions with duration of four hours to complete the answer sheet.

He/she also needs to clear a multi-rater assessment test and then finally sign PMI’s Professional Code of Ethics to be awarded the certificate. The examination fee is different for PMI members and non-members. PMI membership can be taken up by individuals on paying the required membership fee.

PMI certified PGMP program is meant for leaders in making.
